New Challenge provides a range of services to help you significantly increase your chances of finding sustained employment. The core service offer comprises the following:

  • Assessing your skills through targeted basic skills assessments and working closely with you to identify their career and training objectives and helping them to achieve their goals
  • Matrix accredited since 2002, we are able to provide you with information, advice and guidance services to enhance your job prospects
  • Developing a skills action plan that helps you focus on your journey back into employment
  • Job brokerage and recruitment service to match your skills and experience with the opportunities provided by the employers with whom we work
  • Specialist employment and skills support programme targeted at economically inactive individuals residing in the London Borough of Brent

Depending upon your qualifications, we can provide you with careers information, advice and guidance, delivered by professionally qualified Careers Advisers. New Challenge holds a contract to deliver adult advice and guidance services, branded as the National Careers Service across London. Our Careers Advisers can help you with choosing the right course, career planning, developing a winning, interview techniques and job search plus much more.

Directions West London Project (London Councils-ESF 2016-18) >>>

This programme is funded by London Councils and the European Social Fund (ESF), exclusively for Brent residents. There is an emphasis on providing support to those individuals who are furthest from the labour market and includes customers from the following groups:

  • Economically inactive
  • Lone Parents
  • People from Black and Ethnic Minority groups
  • Women facing barriers to employment
  • People with self-declared physical or mental health conditions
  • Older people aged 50+

Each customer has an in-depth assessment, during which we establish their skills, experience and barriers to employment. This is written into a tailored Skills Action Plan that is used to set milestones and goals to help the customer to achieve their learning and work goals.

For maximum effectiveness, we mainly work on a one-to-one basis and the programme provides customers with support in the following areas:

  • Six hours minimum of one-to-one careers information, advice and guidance (IAG)
  • Identification of skills/transferable skills
  • Skills Health Check
  • Professional CV design
  • Coaching and support across a wide range of employability skills including: interview techniques; completing application forms and developing job search strategies
  • Using social media for job search, creating networks and understanding the hidden job market
  • Researching the London labour market for job opportunities
  • Identifying sector-specific employment opportunities and local labour market information

Directions West London also provides support to help individuals source suitable further learning opportunities to develop their skills, work placements and employment opportunities should this be appropriate to their needs.

Once registered onto our programme, each customer is allocated a dedicated careers guidance and employment consultant, who is there to help them improve their skills and secure sustained employment.

You will be assigned a highly experienced, dedicated careers and employment consultant, who will spend time with you on a one-to-one basis to get to know you, identify your skills and experience and put together a skills action plan that is completely tailored to your needs.

This support is customised to your individual needs and you are at the centre of it. Whether it is advice about your CV, a mock interview, background research into a prospective employer or further training, we will work with you to help you achieve your goals.
