We are looking for a Careers Adviser to join our friendly team in Wembley, London.
Responsibilities:
You will need to provide expert careers advice and guidance through our National Careers Service (NCS) contract, on learning and work opportunities to clients in a range of settings; predominantly on an individual face-to-face basis but also using email and telephone support to help clients make well informed careers and learning related decisions. We are also very interested in hearing from career guidance professionals who have experience delivering group workshops.

Job objectives:
- Provide expert careers information, advice and guidance to adults on a broad range of topics relating to skills, education and work
- Discuss training, development and career opportunities with clients and help them to develop individual career action plans
- Support clients to achieve career management outcomes that will help them move closer to their learning and work objectives; such as providing support in the following areas: (a) CV and covering letter; (b) jobsearch; (c) interview skills; (d) written job applications; (e) using Find a Job and other recruitment websites; (f) applying for accredited courses consistent with client’s skills development needs;
- Undertake skills diagnostics and mid-life career reviews with clients as appropriate to support them with their career decision-making
- Proactive caseload management to ensure clients are supported to achieve at least two career management outcomes
- Use Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software to record client information and record the activities undertaken to achieve career management and job/learning outcomes
- Proactive support and tracking to ensure a high proportion of clients progress into either accredited learning or work
- Ensure clients are made aware of the support available to them via the other two channels of the integrated National Careers Service i.e. web and telephone service
- Deliver workshop sessions where appropriate to groups of adults on themes related to learning and work
- Help to maintain an information point comprising of careers and other relevant labour market intelligence, both in hardcopy and on computer
- Assist in monitoring the service provided. Maintain accurate computer and paper record systems to allow performance to be measured and audited against contractual Education & Skills Funding Agency standards
- Develop and maintain links with local organisations that provide information, advice, guidance and related services to adults and act as a referral/advocacy point for clients. This may involve representing the company at IAG partnership or specific project meetings with local agencies
- Broker relationships with employers, colleges, charities, training providers and welfare-to- work organisations in order to create new venues from which to deliver the National Careers Service
- Update area colleagues and stay informed on careers service developments through the IAG partnership network
- Undertake continuous professional development as required to stay abreast of developments in the sector and changes in legislation
- Contribute to the process of accreditation against the Matrix Standard
Qualifications:
- Minimum of one year’s previous experience working on the National Careers Service contract
- Level 4 Diploma in Careers Information and Advice or be working toward it. We are also very interested in hearing from CIAG professionals with the Level 6 qualification
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and be able to present complex information in a succinct and clear manner
- Highly IT literate and possess excellent keyboard skills, with at least one year’s experience using the NCS London CRM system
- Must be able to produce high quality CVs in real time
- Able to work effectively in a target-oriented environment
- Educated to degree level or equivalent
Environment
- You will be working with adults from a wide range of backgrounds, some of whom may lack confidence and/or motivation and who may have very limited qualifications
- You will be expected to liaise with other organisations locally to broker employment and learning opportunities for your clients
- The work will involve working in more than one location and there will be some travel involved in the job
- It will be necessary at times to work outside normal office hours e.g. attending careers fairs
