Real job outcomes after completing a New Challenge course

One of the most common questions adult learners ask is simple and important: will this course actually help me move forward in work?

At New Challenge, we wanted to answer that with real evidence. As part of a dedicated outcomes tracking exercise, we followed up specifically with learners who had completed GLA funded Adult Skills Fund courses with us. We looked at what had changed after they completed their programme, and the findings show meaningful career movement.

Over 30 percent of learners reported a clear positive change in their employment situation after finishing their course.

What kind of progress did learners see?

The positive outcomes included learners who:

• Were already in employment and experienced career progression, such as a promotion, a pay increase, or increased responsibilities
• Secured new employment following completion of their course

These results demonstrate that nearly a third of Adult Skills Fund learners are experiencing tangible labour market benefits as a direct outcome of completing training with New Challenge.

Courses linked to these outcomes

The learners we followed had completed one of our fully funded courses designed to support careers in advice, wellbeing, and community focused roles.

Information, Advice or Guidance
This course is ideal for people who want to support others in navigating services, accessing help, and making informed decisions. It is highly valued in community organisations, charities, housing support, and advice settings.

Mental Health First Aid
A practical and supportive course for anyone working with people. It helps learners recognise the signs of mental health difficulties and respond with confidence and understanding in workplaces and community settings.

Counselling Skills
This course develops listening skills, empathy, and communication techniques that are useful in a wide range of support roles. It is also a strong starting point for further training in counselling or mental health.

Why funded adult learning matters

For many adults, especially those changing careers, returning to work, or progressing from entry level roles, access to funded training can make a real difference. The Adult Skills Fund removes financial barriers and opens the door to recognised qualifications and practical skills.

Just as important is the confidence learners gain along the way. Many tell us they feel more capable, more motivated, and more ready to take the next step in their working lives.

Thinking about your next step?

These outcomes show that for many people, completing a New Challenge course is not just about learning something new. It is about building confidence, improving prospects, and creating real opportunities for progression or new employment.
